How to master Confidence Keys

*Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it
. Roald Dahl

Do you ever wonder about those nerves you get when you are in a new situation?

Think of a time when you had to perform but lacked confidence?  Your voice just let you down?  Your knees wobbled?  You had that icky weak feeling in the pit of your stomach?

Small children have no such fears or failures.

They step out and confidence is just a natural by-product of their lives. My husband the golfer is fond of relating how beautifully a young golfer swings his club; the wide arc, the easy descent of the club as it effortlessly connects with the ball.  The ball whistles off into the distance.  Youngsters have no bag full of memories of poor shots, bad failures that get in the way.  Only great shots and happy games of golf!

Of course we would all love to remain forever that free and easy youngster who could do these things so easily and look so good doing them.

But all is not lost….

Even though we have failed, faced or lost confidence on many occasions, there is a very sure and good way to recover;  not only in front of strict teacher or the harsh boss, but in everyday life too.

Being the middle born child in a family of seven children there was little parental attention shared around in my youth.  In ‘growing myself up’ there were some advantages, but much of the down side – when so little one-on-one attention is available my natural confidence barely grew with me…never gaining trust in myself.  Never Good Enough!!

Return to the freedom and passion of youth.

Years later, once my own children were grown up and on their feet I realised how important it was for me to ‘confidence-ise’ myself.  Time to face my life! Time to develop my own ‘Self Consciousness’….in a good way! Consciously develop ME!

Of the people/clients I now work with, many as young adults studied music and singing and loved what they were doing. Then put their passion on hold and moved into their careers.

Now they return to enhance their talent, regain their confidence and move into new realms of what they loved doing. They have recognized that for them, as it was for me, time to step into their own limelight, step on to their own stage.

Growing confidence through the natural ‘wholeness’: this is my theme.

In the next four sessions, I will be telling the story of my growth as I explore the following topics in each week.

  1. Confidence in You, your Voice;
Speaking,  singing, performing, or whatever your employment.
  2. Confidence in daily life
At the desk; Tech neck; in social settings.
  3. Confidence in Body
Body posture, body mapping, body language.
  4. Confidence at Rest/relaxation
Ultimate letting go into confidence, and in sleeping.
Letting daily attitudes blossom into self belief and self trust.

For now, think back to a time you wanted to perform – at school or in a social setting or anywhere, but just didn’t have it in you; you let yourself down.

What happened, how did you handle your disappointment?  In you?  In the situation?

Click here to send me a one liner, tell me your story.  I won’t share it, but you will get a reply from me.

I give you my core life experiences here so you can benefit from my ‘roadmaps’ AND set your own inner joyful singer free.  If you enjoy my articles, sign up here for Natural Vocal Freedom tips, articles and advance notice of upcoming classes

* P.S. Roald Dahl (marked 100 years this year since his birth) said about Alexander Technique “The Alexander Technique works… I recommend it enthusiastically to anyone who has neck pains or back pain”.

Alexander established not only the beginnings of a far reaching science of the apparently involuntary movements that we call reflexes, but a technique of correction and self control which forms a substantial addition to our very slender resources in personal education.
