Master Confidence in Life

Sitting at my computer the other day, I was trying to master a technical dilemma, you know how it is!

You try this way, then that way and get stuck.  You do it again just in case you did something wrong!  Same result.

Then you go back again and do it more carefully this time, to be absolutely sure!

You swear at the computer!

Well, after two and a half hours of this complete frustration, despair, melt down, getting nowhere; I’m exhausted!!  My shoulders sore.  Neck aching.

Yet again I proved myself an idiot!

Out the window went my confidence!

Know that feeling?

Most people use computers daily; most of my singing students either work office computers or are entrepreneurs on home computers.  And then there are school children.

Much advice is around.

  • Get an ergonomic chair or sit on a Gym Ball.
  • Alternate standing and sitting or change to standing while computing.
  • Have a break every half hour.

The list is endless, good ideas – make life easier.

Yet time still erodes the poise unless checked.

Teaching a class one day I asked how ‘do you sit at your computer?’  A student demonstrated a rather slumped way.  When asked how he felt, surprisingly he admitted ‘overwhelm and depressed’.

As he related his work conditions, it became clear that his issues didn’t relate directly to working at his computer.  He was indirectly making his physical-ness ‘hard labour’.

The longer he was at his computer the more he slumped; eating away at his confidence bit by bit.

Constantly for whatever reason, computer users find themselves  fighting a battle with the pull of gravity as their muscles bow to the task.

QUESTION – how much does the work computer time erode the ease and comfort of the whole 24 hour day; and mobile phone txting pulls us down into action too.

The physical stress and tension that builds while computing carves into the energy and nibbles it away the rest of the day.  What energy is left over for the evening?

And guess what, it goes to bed with you at night!

Self manage the moment by moment stress!  Let it go before bedtime.

-Daily, I sit at the computer………

-Feet are weightless as they rest fully on the floor, heels to ground.

-head lightly poised

-my head and neck uninvolved in the activity, just waiting

-I give myself the freedom to ‘stand on my sit-bones’!

-I let the idea of work wait till I am co-ordinated

Balanced

-I remind myself that the strength of my arms comes from the   muscles of my back

-I type…..

-Energy, co-ordination, self confidence remain intact

-I regenerate Self.

-Freedom! Balance!

Letting go of computer tension is easier than you think; right here, where you are.  Right now!

FM Alexander said “You can change the habit of a lifetime with just one thought”

It all has to do with co-ordination (in activity)….connecting muscles and mind in the moment, on microscopic levels.

Know it better from the inside and use that body knowledge to be a better singer.

Freedom, balance, a way of connecting mind to muscles to control the whole…

Let me show you.
